Neal Simon for U.S. Senate Campaign Requests Correction from Maryland Reporter for Inaccuracy and Errors in Reporting Fundraising Numbers
ROCKVILLE, Md. – Friday, April 27, 2018 – The campaign of Neal Simon, candidate for U.S. Senate from Maryland, released the following statement in response to errors in reporting on first quarter FEC fundraising reports from Maryland Reporter, a political blog:
“The ‘correction’ that Maryland Reporter published, complete with a misleading headline that reads ‘Simon, Cardin raised similar amounts for Senate race,’ is categorically false. During the first quarter, even if you take out both the money raised by Simon in the last 12 days of 2017 and the seed loan from the candidate, Simon outraised Cardin. Period.
“What is even more significant is that Neal outraised Cardin by nearly double from individual donors. Cardin, his party and the special interest PACs that made up more than half of his Q1 fundraising are pushing back hard because they see a very real and possible outcome: Cardin could lose his seat to a non-establishment, unaffiliated moderate that puts the interests of Marylanders above a political party.
“The real story here is that a nonaffiliated candidate for the Maryland U.S. Senate race is giving Sen. Cardin a run for his money – yes, all puns intended – and no voodoo math from a party spokesman is going to change the facts. We have a long way to go in this race and we would hope that Maryland Reporter will base its reporting on facts, not a force-fed and false narrative that aims to please Sen. Cardin and his party bosses. Neal and his campaign will continue to put people over politics and truth over falsehoods.”
